CERN Investigators Publish Paper on Ependymoma Research Methods

A paper pertaining to ependymoma research has been published in the prominent Neuro-Oncology Journal. The paper was co-authored by CERN’s own Drs. Yung and Koul from MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr. Alfred Yung is currently the Professor of Neuro Oncology, Cancer Biology, and the Margaret and Ben Love Chair of Clinical Cancer Care at MD Anderson Cancer Center. He has served as Chair of the Department of Neuro-Oncology since 1999. He is also the director of the Brain Tumor SPORE and co-director of the Brain Tumor Center. Dr. Dimpy Koul is currently an Associate Professor with the Department of Neuro-Oncology-Research at MD Anderson Cancer Center and has been with the department for more than 11 years.
The paper focuses on the establishment and characterization of in vivo and in vitro models of ependymoma to study the molecular pathways necessary for growth and progression in ependymoma. In addition, this study also emphasizes the use of these models for therapeutic intervention of ependymomas. In essence this study describes the establishment of laboratory research models to be used specifically for ependymoma. These models can also be used to study the standard therapies used for the tumor.
